Valencia County, New Mexico is a rural community located south of Albuquerque, NM. Although medication assisted treatment (MAT) is not currently offered in the Valencia County Adult Detention Center, the jail also offers several types of outpatient substance use treatment groups, peer recovery support services, and Alcoholics Anonymous/Narcotics Anonymous to its estimated 37% of inmates that enter the facility with a SUD.

The local detention center states that it does not currently have the ability to meet the needs of those who are experiencing opioid use disorder (OUD) and seeks to initiate a sustainable program to address the ongoing issue of OUD and increase access to treatment for users.
