Hamilton County, the fourth largest county in Tennessee, is nestled generally between Signal and Lookout Mountains while bordering Georgia. Hamilton County boasts rural and urban environments that offer a diverse population with equally diverse and unique community needs. 70.6% of the racial/ethnic groups are White, with Black at 18.4%, followed next by Hispanic at 6%.

Hamilton County experienced an estimated 226 suspected drug-related deaths in 2022 compared to 176 in 2021, a 28% increase. 538 patients were administered Narcan by the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in the first half of 2023, with 71% of those patients receiving more than one dose.

Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center offers medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) maintenance with buprenorphine and methadone. They seek to expand to offer induction and to add substance use counselors and peer support to move from MOUD to medication assisted treatment (MAT).
