Federal statutes, regulations, and guidelines govern medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid addiction. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Division of Pharmacologic Therapies (DPT), part of the SAMHSA Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), oversees accreditation standards and certification processes for opioid treatment programs (OTPs). DPT also works with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the states to regulate certain medications used in MAT. This online resource provides additional information on these regulations and criteria.
